While many felt that the Cavs picking of point guard Collin Sexton puts the thought of the team doing whatever they can to make a deal for Charlotte guard Kemba Walker in the forefront, that’s not the case according to Bleacher Reports Ken Berger.
The following is from Berger’s piece from Bleacher Report on Friday following the Cavs pickup of Sexton on Thursday night.
The Cavs continue to explore the possibility of working a deal with the Charlotte Hornets for two-time All-Star Kemba Walker, two league sources told B/R on Thursday night. Their best chance at such a deal would seem to have involved the eighth pick in the draft, which didn’t happen. One person close to Walker said Thursday night that he still believes such a deal is “possible.”
Another league source pushed the notion of a trade for Walker one step further when it comes to the Cavs’ chances of keeping LeBron: Acquiring Walker, the person said, “is the only way LeBron stays.”
There’s no question that things will change dramatically all over the place in the Cavs organization if James does indeed decide to leave, and Dan Gilbert and the team isn’t going to waste all kinds of money on the team if James isn’t around.
Thursday’s comments from GM Koby Altman seem to indicate (as well there should be till he says otherwise) that James is still very much in play to stay with the Cavs, but just like eight years ago, there’s nothing set in stone until James himself says he’s sticking around.
When it comes to the Cavs making a play for Walker, it’s not going to be easy to land him as there’s plenty of teams with interest, but look for the wine and gold to pull out all the stops LeBron stays to make him happy – and if that includes Walker, they’ll do their best to make it happen.

Good Lord. I hope the Cavs don’t get him.
