With the Indians on the lookout for an outfielder before Tuesday’s 4pm trade deadline, there’s another new name to add to the list.
That player is Texas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo, who Indians fans will best remember for his moon shot he hit in the 9th inning last Friday to tie the Indians game against the Rangers eventually won by the Tribe 9-8.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Tribe and Phillies both have interest in Gallo, who wouldn’t be a free agent until 2022.
Gallo is hitting just .190 but has some power in his bat, as he’s clubbed 25 homers with 56 RBI in 336 at-bats.
Last season he slammed 41 homers, 80 runs batted in but again didn’t hit much for average, hitting just .209.
The big question about a player like Gall is what would it take to get him from Texas, as with a player with that much control would cost quite a bit over just a rental.
Oddly enough the Phillies are also the team mentioned along with the Indians showing interest in Orioles outfielder Adam Jones, but the big difference is Jones is a free agent after the season.
