The Cleveland Indians first baseman is set for free agency after the 2017 season.
Right now the Indians are rolling along with a 21 game win streak and everyone in the lineup is contributing in some way.
Carlos Santana would be a key piece to bring back to Cleveland following the 2017 season.
Since the All-Star break, Santana has hit .309, with a .427 On-Base Percentage, and has been slugging with a .598 . Santana has been known as a second half player for the longest time. To add to those second half numbers, he has 13 homers, along with 30 RBIs.
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Cleveland Indians would like to bring back Carlos Santana but according to someone close to the financial situation has said that “it is just a matter of finances.”
With Santana hitting the free agent market, he will most likely be the top first baseman. Eric Hosmer of the Kansas City Royals will also be hitting the free agent market but it is still believed that he will be playing second fiddle to Santana when it comes to a team in need of someone at first base.
Along with Hosmer and Santana, there are other first baseman that will be set for free agency also.
Some of them being the following players:
- Logan Morrison
- Lucas Duda
- Yonder Alonso
- Mark Reynolds
- Mitch Moreland
- Mike Napoli
Another thing that makes Santana valuable is that he has shown unselfishness by playing in the outfield for the first time in his career in the World Series last year against the Chicago Cubs.
It is being said that Carlos Santana would like the idea of a return to Cleveland if it is possible but no contract discussions have been reported yet according to people close to the situation.
