Since the shifting of power away from former Indians President Mark Shaprio, the Indians have had great success with the tandem of Chris Antonetti as team President, and Mike Chernoff as the teams’ general manager.
Chernoff’s name has been mentioned in baseball circles as a rising star in the front office ranks, and there were rumblings of teams’ having interest in chatting with him about making a move away from the Indians.
According to Jon Heyman, that’s not happening, as late Tuesday Heyman tweeted out that Chernoff is set to have an extension with the Tribe, one that will keep him in the GM spot for a number of years.
The Indians won’t announce or confirm deal or no deal but it’s believed GM Mike Chernoff has been extended. Chernoff wouldn’t say and only offered only 3 words: “I love Cleveland.”

With an offseason of drama apparently already ahead for the Indians with rumors of trading top players as well as a reshaping of the outfield with the likely departure of Michael Brantley and right now a huge hole in right field, it’s good to know that at least having Chernoff in place is a deal that will be done for the franchise sooner than later.
