With the MLB Winter Meetings now just five days away, there’s going to be rumor upon rumor about possible deals. The Indians have been mentioned quite a bit already this offseason as a team that could be involved in a deal for an outfielder (remember those Brett Gardner rumors?).
The San Francisco Giants are the latest team that are reported to have chatted with the Indians, as early today Buster Olney of ESPN tweeted out news of a chat between the two teams.
CLE/SF talked about possible Carlos Carrasco deal, with CLE asking about Brandon Belt and Joe Panik. Those discussions then faded.

Makes sense that the deal went nowhere, as while Belt is a nice young player (27 years old, hit .280, 18 homers and 68 RBI), he’s not enough to make a deal happen. As for Panik, he plays second which isn’t a position of need right now for the Indians with Jason Kipnis in the fold.
Panik hit .312 with eight homers and 37 RBI last season in 100 games.
Look for more talks like that with the Giants to keep coming between now and the start of the meetings on Monday.
