On a day when the NBA world may have shifted again with Kevin Durant stating he would be joining the Golden State Warriors, there is some Cavs news, but it’s about the team possibly losing a player, not gaining one.
Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com reports that the team will NOT match the offer sheet that reportedly guard Matthew Dellavedova inked with the Bucks, and will become official on July 7th.
The Cavs do have the right to match the deal, but Haynes says they are not planning on it, and will watch the backup for Kyrie Irving leave the team after winning a title.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will not match the offer sheet restricted free agent guard Matthew Dellavedova received from the Milwaukee Bucks, league sources informed cleveland.com.
Dellavedova, 25, is expected to sign his four-year, $38.5 million deal shortly after July 7, the first day free agents can sign their contracts. The Cavaliers would have three days to match the offer sheet to retain the services of their backup point guard, but cleveland.com was told that wouldn’t be the case.
His new deal contains no team or player option and I’m told a sign-and-trade transaction will not occur.
In the 2015-16 season Dellavedova put up 7.5 points, 4.4 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game for the Cavaliers. He appeared in 76 games, and also played in 20 of the teams playoff games as well as they won the NBA Title.
