Jason Lloyd of Ohio.com reported on Tuesday evening that the Cavaliers expect to meet with shooting guard Dwyane Wade.
This comes after a busy 24 hours of speculation on social media regarding the possibility of Wade coming to Cleveland, but Lloyd acknowledges that the odds are not in the Cavaliers’ favor when it comes to signing the free-agent.
Here’s an excerpt from Lloyd’s report:
The Cavaliers and free agent Dwyane Wade are expected to talk soon, multiple league sources confirmed to the Beacon Journal, although the path to a deal remains blocked by a number of financial obstacles… The Cavs are happy to talk to Wade, but they don’t have a lot of options without dramatically overhauling the roster. As of now, they can only offer Wade the taxpayer’s midlevel exception worth $3.47 million. He can command more than $20 million annually from other teams in free agency. The Cavs can’t offer Wade that much without a dramatic move, such as trading Kevin Love. Not even dumping Iman Shumpert and his $9.7 million will free up the necessary cap space to pursue Wade with anything other than the taxpayer’s midlevel.”
This report came a few hours after Chris B. Haynes of Cleveland.com detailed reasons why the Cavs won’t sign Wade. Haynes states in the article:
“Another scenario (to bring Wade to Cleveland) is if his good friend James settled for the mid-level to clear up space, but James isn’t taking anything less than his maximum value, I’m told.”
It still does not seem likely that the Cavs will add Wade, but this is a good sign for Cavs fans who have been dreaming of D-Wade in Wine and Gold.
