The Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics have reached an agreement in the Kyrie Irving trade, according to a release from the team.
“In conjunction with finalizing the trade involving Kyrie Irving, Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and a 2018 [first]-round pick the Celtics acquired via Brooklyn, the Celtics and Cavaliers have agreed to modify the terms of the trade such that Boston will also send Miami’s 2020 [second]-round pick to Cleveland. The trade is now complete,” the team said in a joint release with the Celtics.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was the first to report the news on Wednesday night:
Boston will send its 2020 second-round pick via Miami to Cavaliers to complete the trade, league sources said. Boston would budge no more.

The trade was put on hold when the health of Thomas came into question due to a hip injury that he suffered in March and re-aggravated in the Eastern Conference Finals.. Thomas took his physical in Cleveland last week, and the deadline for him to pass it was scheduled for Thursday morning at 10 a.m.
Rumors swirled for the last week about what else the Cavs would be willing to accept from Boston in order to avoid vetoing the trade. Per Wojnarowski’s report, the Celtics repeatedly resisted the Cavs asks for another first-round pick.
The stalemate came as a result of Cleveland believing that the Celtics were not upfront regarding Thomas’ health, while the Celtics maintained the exact opposite.
According to Wojnarowski, Irving is expected to appear at a press conference in Boston on Friday.
