The Cleveland Browns were in the running to acquire now former Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, according to a report from ESPN’s Dianna Russini. Bennett was traded Wednesday afternoon to the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles along with a seventh-round pick in exchange for wide receiver Marcus Johnson and a fifth-round pick.
There were a bunch of teams in the running for Michael Bennett. New England, Cleveland, Tampa, and Falcons to just name a few.

It was expected that most fans would be interested in seeing if the Browns made an attempt for the outstanding defensive player, as they have a lot of draft assets to work with that would catch any team’s eye. Cleveland did make an attempt, as New England, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta also tried to bring Bennett to their respective team. However, it was the Eagles that secured the deal and brought in another problematic pass-rusher.
The news comes just a week after it was rumored the Browns were in the mix for defensive end Robert Quinn, who was shipped to the Miami Dolphins in the end.
Free agency starts on March 14th and Cleveland has the most money to work within the NFL. Where they will decide to use it remains to be seen or known.
