The Browns last October were able to grab a solid defensive player in former Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins, but everyone knew that if things didn’t work out, he would be free to walk at the end of the year.
It appears that’s not going to happen and Collins will indeed be back with the Browns, as Jason LaCanfora reports that a deal to bring back the 27-year-old is close to done.
The Browns have made significant progress on an extension with pending free-agent Jamie Collins, sources said. Deal to be done by weekend

Collins became a leader on a Browns defense that made progress down the stretch, and ended his eight games with the Browns with two sacks and a forced fumble.
He stated on December 30th that he was interested in staying with the Browns if the money was right, and it sounds like he’s about to get what he wants to stick with Hue Jackson and company.
The Browns got Collins from New England for a compensatory third-round pick. He made the Pro Bowl and was named 2nd Team All-Pro in 2015.
Another element to getting a deal done with Collins is the teams desire to bring back wide out Terrelle Pryor, who according to LaCanfora could find himself with the franchise tag.
Browns completion of long-term deal with Collins will give them flexibility to franchise tag Pryor if necessary. Cap space no issue

Pryor had a breakout 2016, catching 77 passes for 1004 yards and four touchdowns.
