Remembering WCW Halloween Havoc

1992

One phrase will forever immortalize this show, “Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal!”  WCW loved their hokey gimmick style matches, and this sure was one of them.  Jake The Snake Roberts challenged Sting in a “Coal Miner’s Glove Match”.  It was the biggest match of Roberts very short run with WCW.  Elsewhere on the card, Ron Simmons made one of his few successful title defenses during a short jaunt with the WCW World Title over the newly minted Barbarian.

1993

This year it was Cactus Jack and Vader who took a turn spinning the wheel, as they came upon a Texas Death Match.  The match was brutal, but neither man actually passed away.  WCW was on the cusp of coming out of the dark ages at this point, but not quite yet there as proven by the Ice Train, Charlie Norris and The Shockmaster defeated Harlem Heat (Kole and Kane) and The Equalizer.  Although, it was nice to get a look at a young Booker T.

1994

This was by far and away, the very best Halloween Havoc show WCW ever put on, it rivals a stellar 1998 card.  The main event says it all.  The new WCW World Champion Hulk Hogan putting his belt on the line against Ric Flair in a Retirement Cage Match with Mr. T as the referee.  That it is 3 stipulations wrapped into one match between all-time legends.  On top of the name value alone, the match was the best the two ever had with each other.

Later in the night, it was revealed that Brother Brutus Beefcake was the masked man attacking Hogan several months beforehand.  A hot crowd from Detroit was rowdy all night for every match and they were not disappointed!  Vader versus the Guardian Angel fought for the next shot at Hogan, that match was good for two big men.  Plenty of action!
