The Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves Boys Track and Field team won the 66th Annual Cuyahoga Relays on Saturday. The Red Wolves boys dominated the day winning six out of eight running relay events. In addition, they also finished first individually in the long jump and discus.
Saturday’s victory is the Red Wolves second of the week as this win comes just five days after they won the Independence Invitational.
“Just a really great team performance,” said Cuyahoga Heights Head Track and Field Coach John Shafer. “We had some fantastic performances. Our junior distance runner, Brandyn Rusch, was awarded the Track MVP award.”
In addition, Francis Connors won the Field MVP award for the Red Wolves.
For the meet, the Red Wolves won the 4 x 1600m Relay (Bradyn Rusch, Logan Apathy, Luke Berzins, Joe Shay), 4 x 800m Relay (Bradyn Rusch, Logan Apathy, Zander Mooney, Caden Buccier), 800m Sprint Medley Relay (Jacob Stewart, Anthony Cautouzis, Devon Dzik, Nicholas Armbrust), 4 x 200m Relay (Jacob Stewart, Anthony Cautouzis, Devon Dzik, Eli Walton), 4000m Distance Medley (Logan Apathy, Derek DiSanza, Gavin Chamberlin, Bradyn Rusch), and the 4 x 400m Relay (Caden Buccier, Noah Wilson, Eli Walton, Nicholas Armbrust).
The Red Wolves Girls Track and Field team also had an excellent performance as they finished second for the meet. The Red Wolves Girls team won the 4 x 100 Shuttle Hurdle Relay (Janasia Bridges, Samantha Vallee, Mariana Hopkins, Brooke Krajewski).
As the Red Wolves prepare for the conference tournament, Rusch talked about how cohesive the team is becoming.
“That chemistry keeps continuing so as the season keeps progressing and we go into the post-season we hope to (continue getting better) and make it as far as we can,” said Rusch.
The Red Wolves return to the track on Tuesday as they host a home meet with Cornerstone Christian, Garrett Morgan, and Lake Ridge Academy.
