Mother Nature Continues To Impact Local Racing
Yet again rain forced many local short tracks across Ohio to cancel their shows over the weekend. Friday night’s schedule was a complete wash, while most racing on Saturday was impacted. Looking forward, the early forecast for this weekend looks good which should allow fans to get back to their favorite local short track.
Stenhouse Jr. Gets 1st Career Cup Win
A last-lap pass Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway snapped two skids. It gave Ricky Stenhouse Jr. his first career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series win in his 158th career start. It also gave his team, Roush Fenway Racing their first win since June 2014. Stenhouse Jr. started the race from the pole, leading the first 13 laps. He didn’t lead again until the final lap.
Tifft In Top Ten
Hinckley, Ohio native Matt Tifft finished 6th in Saturdays NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega. Tifft sits 7th in the NXS points standings.
Ohio Outlaws
Sheldon Haudenschild had to win the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into Friday night’s feature with the World of Outlaws at Missouri State Fair Speedway. The Wooster native would finish 14th in the feature. Fellow Ohioan Greg Wilson (Benton Ridge) would finish the feature in 19th.
A night later at 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kansas Haudenschild finished 12th in the main event while Wilson finished 16th. Donny Schatz swept the weekend bumping his season win total with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars to 8. The Outlaws are set to invade Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio this Friday and Saturday for #LetsRaceTwo.
Big Shows Set To Close Out May
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars, not the only major touring sprint car series that will be in Ohio this month. The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will visit Attica Raceway Park May 26thand Mansfield Motor Speedway May 28th. On the asphalt end of things, the Midwest Supermodified Association and Main Event Racing Series both open their respective seasons this Saturday at Sandusky Speedway.
