The Ohio State Buckeyes won’t lose 12 players to the NFL Draft this year, like they did in 2016, but some vital pieces to the team will be taking their talents to get paid.
Here are NFL projections for outgoing players, who have already declared:
1st Round
S Malik Hooker
Hooker is still pretty raw so I was a little surprised that he declared for the draft, but his talent is sky high. For somebody who did not play football until his junior year of high school and then just became a starter as a redshirt sophomore this season, Hooker absolutely blew everyone away.
He is one of those rare true ballhawking free safeties. An All-American after posting seven interceptions to go along with 74 tackles and 11 pass deflections, his ball skills and field awareness are what separates him from the rest. He seems to be all over the field and on every ball thrown downfield finding a way to put himself in position for a pick or deflection.
He’s great at reading plays and is extremely athletic and finds himself in plays that seem like he had no chance of making. His inexperience is the one concern right now, and he is going to still make some rookie mistakes at the next level but along with Jamal Adams, he has the chance to be the next Eric Berry like safety. Expect him to go in the top 15 and possibly top 10.
