UCONN has played a brutal schedule this season so just getting to a bowl game is an accomplishment but they are very lackluster offensively. In terms of passing, rushing or points scored, their passing ranks the highest at 96th in the country. Marshall does not have the same offensive struggles as Connecticut, and has played a pretty good schedule as well. I think Marshall is the much better team in this one.

This is not the same Miami team we are used to. Their win over Duke should not count, leaving a 29-24 victory over Pitt being their best win. The real surprise is for how many great NFL RBs they have put out over the years, they rank 117th in the country in rushing this season. Washington State doesn’t run much either, but that’s because they pass more than anybody with QB Luke Falk throwing an insane 591 passes, 56 more than second. As a team, they have 685 passes to 289 runs or 72% passes. After the putrid Portland State loss week one, they have victories at Oregon, at Arizona, and at UCLA. I think they win at El Paso too.

I always get a little weary taking a 6-6 power five over a dominant non-power five school but I like Washington in this one. Excluding Sacramento State as a FCS school, 10 of Washington’s 11 opponents are in a bowl game. They host a 2-3 record against ranked opponents including a win at USC. Southern Mississippi was the loser of the Conference USA Championship game but I don’t see their strong passing game being able to overcome Washington. The closest team on their schedule to them was Mississippi State which ended in a 34-16 loss.
