Preview: Indians Look to Take 3 of 4 From Jays with Win in Sunday Afternoon Finale

The Cleveland Indians and the Toronto Blue Jays have had a very entertaining season series. After winning last nights game 9-8 the Tribe will look to earn a victory Sunday afternoon. A win would give the Tribe a series win and a 4-3 overall season series win against the dismal team up north.

Here’s a look at the breakdown for today’s series finale with the Jays.

Date: Sunday, September 9

Time: 1:10 p.m. ET

Location: Rogers Centre – Toronto

Starting Pitchers: Cleveland Mike Clevinger (11-7, 3.11 ERA) vs. Toronto Thomas Pannone (1-1, 4.58 ERA)

TV Channel: SportsTime Ohio

Radio: ALT 99.1, AM WTAM 1100 and WMMS 100.7

Here are three things to pay attention to as the Tribe looks to take three out of four in Toronto Sunday afternoon.

1. Clevinger’s 12th Win

Mike Clevinger will try and tie his career high in wins Sunday going for number 12. The third year veteran already has a career high in strikeouts with 182 and innings pitched at 171.6. Though he has had his ups and downs this season, Clevinger has been better overall this season even if his win-loss record doesn’t reflect it. The Tribe will need him to be at his best in order to help them seal the season series.

2. Brantley’s Spark

Michael Brantley returned to the lineup Saturday after missing a few starts due to a bruised left foot. He went 2-4 Saturday with a home-run and two RBI. The left fielder will try and keep the momentum going Sunday as he’s been a consistent hitter all year. It has seemed that when the Tribe have been slumping or needed a spark, Brantley has been the man to deliver in most cases. Expect him to make a contribution in Sunday’s game and help get the Tribe stack back-to-back wins.

3. The Bullpen

The bullpen has been the Tribe’s issue all year. They collectively gave up three more earned runs Saturday and will need Andrew Miller to return soon to be a threat in the playoffs. All eyes will be on them Sunday to see how they bounce back after another bad questionable outing. If the Indians are going to be a real threat the bullpen must figure out their issues.
