2. Thompson Time- Tristan Thompson was held out of the playoff rotation to start this first-round series for whatever reason you’d like to think he was. A fine mixture of off-the-court chatter combined with arguably his worst season as a pro left Cleveland’s former starting center wondering when he’d get minutes to make an impact. Just two minutes was all that Thompson was able to see during the first three games of this series against Indiana. That’s clearly not anywhere close to meaningful minutes, let alone enough time to make a noticeable impact on the contest.
Well, things are apparently looking up for Thompson. Cavaliers head coach Ty Lue spoke with the media at shootaround on Sunday and said he’d look for Thompson a lot more in Game Four.
What exactly does that entail for Tristan?
He’ll be coming off the bench and it’s unsure who he’ll be paired up with. That in and of itself is a concern, as Thompson hasn’t been a part of any of the new units created during Game Two. How well will he fit in with a second unit that is already rag-tag as is?
Thompson must be put in a situation where there are at least two to three scorers on the floor. That way, he can focus on his niche of rebounding. If he can haul in a surplus of rebounds and Cleveland brings home a victory, all might be forgiven for the time being.
