Defensive Player of the Year
Chandler Jones OLB ARI
JJ Watt is going to be the most popular pick here for any of these awards besides maybe Zeke for Offensive Rookie of the Year. However winning the award in four of five years just seems like an impossible task. There has to be someone else out there who can compete and overtake his throne. A back injury that sprung up in the preseason is another reason I’m a little hesitant on Watt. Make no doubt he is still going to be a disruptive force but I think this is a year somebody else overtakes him. I have two names I like, Chandler Jones and Khalil Mack. Mack has a strong case. He’s only 25 years old, was an All-Pro at both DE and OLB and recorded 15 sacks in his second season. He’s a strong young player that is only going to get better. I’m going to go with my dark horse Chandler Jones. He finished fifth in sacks last year with 12.5 and also had 11.5 back in 2013. He gets a change of scenery going to Arizona from New England. Arizona has needed a big pass rusher and the secondary is actually why I like him so much. The Cardinals have a great secondary and if they can cover the WRs like they are supposed to it gives Jones another second or so to get to the QB. Jones is also in a contract year so you best believe he is going to give it his all to cash in. Seeing whoever the Rams or 49ers throw out there at QB for four games of the year can surely help his sack total too.
