Midnight for the Cinderella story that is Cleveland SC may be nowhere near, but the playoffs sure are. In March of 2018, it looked as though that Cleveland would be without a NPSL Soccer team for the first time in many years. Sam Seibert, Coletun Long, Chris Cvecko, Mike Travis and a host of others refused to let that happen. Now, less than 6 months later, not only does Cleveland have a team and beautiful venue to play in, but they are on the cusp of reaching the NPSL playoffs.

After a thrilling last weekend of soccer at Don Shula stadium on the campus of John Carroll University, Cleveland SC stands on the doorstep of the NPSL playoffs. With two regular season games to go, Cleveland SC simply needs one more win or even a couple of draws to get in. They currently sit in first place with 21 points, Erie is in second with 20, and Pittsburgh stands firm with 18 in third with two matches to play.

The simple fact that they are even in this position is remarkable. If you haven’t seen the dynamic duo at their best, (Admir Suljevic and Mikey Derezic), you’re missing out. These two have played together for years and their chemistry cannot be denied.

The back line of Dec McGivern and Coletun Long is one of the hardest tandems to score on in the NPSL. Vinny Bell is never too far away from his next hat trick and Antonio Manfut is one of the fastest players in the NPSL. Don’t forget about returning legend Tom Beck, who has given this team the late season boost they needed.

The goalkeeping combination of “Super” Mario Musa and Meekal Outcalt have allowed the least amount of goals in the entire Midwest East Division (9). No one else is even close.

Bottom line, this team is for real. The tickets to watch them play are cheap, and the entertainment value is massive. If you’re a Cleveland sports fan, and haven’t checked out this squad, you’re missing out. Stay locked in to NEOSI as they play their last two matches of the season, both on the road. This weekend against Syracuse FC, a team they just beat 4-0 this past Sunday. Then the big one on the road the following weekend against the Erie Commodores.
