CLEVELAND – The questions at Browns head coach Mike Pettine were fast and furious regarding his future and if he thinks he will be back as the teams head coach next season.
Following the teams’ 28-12 loss to Pittsburgh to end the season at 3-13, rumors all over the place seemed to point to Pettine being fired, possibly as early as Sunday night.
Pettine said after the loss he had not been told anything about his job status, and then was asked what he would say if he had to make his case for his job.
“I’m not into pleading,” Pettine said. “What gets put out there, how we attack work everyday, the players, that to me is the resume.”
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was in the Browns locker room following the game, but failed to give a comment as he left the locker room and than appeared to leave the stadium.
With the loss, the Browns have now dropped 18 of their last 21 games, and Pettine in two seasons went 10-22, this after the team was 6-3 after a win over the Bengals last season in Cincinnati that had then atop the division.
“Nobody wants to hear it’s a process, that’s the situation we are in,” Pettine said. “There’s a good young nucleus here, you don’t have to look any further than this last draft class.”
If what Pettine believes is true, none of what he thinks may matter anymore if the rumors of his upcoming departure ring true.
