A weekend of partying last weekend in Texas may have just cost Johnny Manziel a chance at the Browns starting quarterback job against the Ravens Monday night.
Today Browns coach Mike Pettine stated that he is “not in position yet” to say if Manziel will start, and that he’s gathering information.
He said that the latest incident around Manziel is “disappointing. Very.”
On Monday both a photo and Instagram video surfaced that was reported to have been taken in a Austin nightclubs. One of the photos showed Manziel holding a bottle while he was singing along to a hip-hop song. The post was taken down later in the afternoon by the DJ in Austin who posted it.
“I want to sit down and discuss it before I do a knee jerk and go off on a tangent,” Pettine said, while also acknowledging: “It’s a little easier to handle when it’s a one-time occurrence, but when it’s repeat behavior its a concern.”
If Pettine pulls the plug on Manziel, the team would go back to quarterback Josh McCown, who is cleared to play.
On Monday when asked about the pictures, Manziel had no comment as he said he had not seen the photos. Manziel last week was named the Browns starter after two decent outings against the Bengals and Steelers.
Now it appears that all could be lost due to his weekend events in Austin.
