Perry Pirates Beat Madison Blue Streaks 49-7 In 59th Battle For The “Little Brown Jug”

Perry, Ohio – Since the Madison Blue Streaks and Perry Pirates renewed their rivaly back in 2008, the victories have come in bunches. These neighborhood rivals have played some of the most memorable games in Lake County high school football history.

The 59th battle for the “Little Brown Jug” will not go down as an instant classic as the previous two meetings did. The host Pirates dominated the visiting Blue Streaks from the opening kickoff. Perry wins the “Little Brown Jug” for a third consecutive year 49-7.

The Pirates scored all 49 points in the first half. The only things that went wrong for the Porates were a fumble inside the Blue Streaks 5-yard line on its opening possesion and a 99-yard touchdown run called back on a holding penalty.

The Pirates got outstanding contributions from its seniors and a true freshman. Senior quarterback Kolston Brewster tossed three touchdow passes. Junior running back Jake Reid caught a touchdown pass and ran for a score. Freshman Jaylen Anderson found the endzone three times.

“We’re happy that we came out and played so well right off the bat,” Perry head coach Matt Rosati said following the game. “We’ll take it. The Little Brown Jug stays and were onto our next mission.”

The Blue Streaks did not record a first down until there was 4:36 remaining in the first half on a run by sophomore quarterback Alex Dragas.

Madison avoided the shutout in the final two minutes of the game on a touchdown run by junior running back Dominic Conforte. The running clock rule was in effect for the entire second half.

“I give the Madison guys credit, they fight hard,” Rosati said. “They’re a very well coached team. We’re very fortunate things went our way. We have playmakers and they did what they do in a big game. I am proud of our guys for how they played. It went well for us tonight.”

Perry improves to 3-0. Madison falls to 1-2. Both schools open up conference play in week four. Perry hosts Chagrin Valley Conference rival Beachwood. Madison hosts Western Reserve Conference foe Willoughby South.
