A split squad of twelve Shoremen traveled to Cleveland Heights Friday to take on NDCL in the first game of the Benedictine Tournament.
Avon Lake was led by freshman sensation Luke Farthing with his first high school hat trick. He also added one assist to hit the ten point mark on the season. Senior Patrick Graney was the only captain on the roster tonight and he showed excellent leadership by scoring twice and adding two assists en route to a four point night.
He is now averaging two points a game through seven games. Sophomore Brian Walasinski, who leads the team in hits, showed his offensive talent by registering two goals and an assist. Freshman Murphy Mohar, sophomore Tommy Kacmarcik and senior Joey Kleinhenz also scored for Avon Lake. Assists on the night were also credited to freshman defenseman Matt Van Cleave ( the first point of his high school career), Edgars York, Justin Share, Devin Elliott and Kacmarcik.
After surrendering an early goal, the Shoremen and goaltender Cameron Stepka showed tremendous resiliency and got increasingly better as the game went on. Stepka had 16 saves on the night and won her fourth game of the season. Avon Lake is now 7-1 on the season.
A full Avon Lake squad will take the ice tomorrow (12/9/17) twice in the Benedictine Tournament. The puck drops at 9:45am against Benedictine and 5:00pm against Orange High School.
