Round 4 Matt Ioannidis DT Temple
With the first of the Browns compensation picks, they go with the first defensive player of the draft. Ioannidis would be a great fit for the Browns up front defensively. He has played across the line at Temple and has a non-stop motor. The guy never takes plays off and his good size and strength (32 reps at the combine) can make an impact, especially against the run.
Round 5 DeAndre Houston-Carson S William & Mary
Houston-Carson is a do it all kind of guy the Browns could use throughout the secondary. He was a former CB that moved to safety last year. He also is a top-notch gunner on special teams, something the Browns need with Bademosi leaving. He has great size at 6’1” 201 pounds and his 4.54 speed is an added bonus. With Rahim Moore signing a one year deal, he can sit back this year and get a more natural feel for the position while chiming in on special teams and packages this season.
Round 5 Ben Braunecker TE Harvard
I keep saying that the Browns need to find somebody to complement Gary Barnidge. Neither of their picks at the position last year really panned out so they may want to try again this year. Braunecker is a really intriguing prospect. While once again I may love some of these smaller school guys, you can’t argue his combine. He was towards the top of every drill at the position. He may not be an inline TE but Barnidge has fulfilled that role for years. Braunecker can still block, catch, and was productive. Also being a Harvard grad, his high IQ can also help in him finding a way to carve a role onto the team.
