11.) Browns sign CB TJ Carrie, 4 years 31 million
Grade: B+
There were a lot of big name CBs to hit the market in free agency that I wanted the Browns to go after. Neither of these CBs were my guys but Carrie is still a quality number two corner for a team. The contract is fair for him and the Browns needed two new starters. His signing probably signals the end for Jamar Taylor and I would expect them to go after another corner to compliment Carrie in round one or early round two to round out the new secondary.
12.) Joe Thomas announces retirement
Grade: A-
How do you grade a retirement? I’m not really sure but I’ll try. Obviously it hurts the Browns as they lose their franchise LT. For Joe I’m glad he took his time and came up with a decision that was best for him and that he feels comfortable with. As a positive he gave the front office notice ahead of time and waited to announce it so the team would not lose any leverage which was a class act. On the negative it is sad to see a first ballot HOF career as great as his end already. It also hurts that he could not truly do it on his own time but as his body decided it was time. I wish he could have done one more season to possibly crack the playoffs for the first time in his career but he knows what is best. What we do know for certain is he will be great in whatever media role he decides on and that we will see him soon in Canton. For a great career and one of the few bright spots for the franchise since 1999 he deserves nothing less than some sort of A.

You were doing good until the Joe Thomas assessment. “I’m glad he took his time and came up with a decision that was best for him”. Wow, sounds really selfish. Joe took his ball and went home. Let’s celebrate.
