5.) Browns sign DE Chris Smith, 3 years 14 million
Grade: B+
Carl Nassib and Nate Orchard have not done much as backup pass rushers for the defense since they were drafted. Finding a replacement especially at pass rusher is usually not cheap. While his 3 sacks last year do not sound like much, that would have tied him for fifth on the Browns last season and that is with him not starting a single game either. To take away from a divisional opponent and not overpay a pass rusher is a pretty good deal to me.
6.) Browns sign OT Donald Stephenson, 1 year 2.5 million
Grade: C-
This was the first move by the Browns I was not a fan of but it is one that really won’t matter much either. Dorsey had plenty of money to spend so one year and 2.5 million is no big deal but Stephenson isn’t very good. He has never really latched on as a starter anywhere and should only serve as depth. With Hubbard, Coleman, and Drango already here and possibly drafting a LT, did they really need to spend 2.5 million for a fifth tackle instead of possibly drafting someone else late for much cheaper and develop them?

You were doing good until the Joe Thomas assessment. “I’m glad he took his time and came up with a decision that was best for him”. Wow, sounds really selfish. Joe took his ball and went home. Let’s celebrate.
