Led by 24 points from Jared Bublinec, the Open Door Christian Patriots won the Dan Gossman Holiday Classic championship with a hard fought 76-74 win over the Amherst Comets on Friday evening.
The nip and tuck affair went the extra period, and the Patriots were just two points better, outscoring the Comets 11-9 in the ovetime to take home the win.
Trey Brooks helped the cause for Open Door, as he added 19 points in the victory, Gavin Dobbins sank 13 for the Patriots.
The Comets hung tough, but with the loss drop to 1-6 on the season. They got 17 from Christian Pfeiffer in the loss, and 14 from Kyle Ferguson.
Ryan Hritsko and Ty Weatherspoon each added 13 for Amherst in the setback.
The game was about as even as the score, as Open Door hit seven three’s to Amherst’s six, and the Patriots led in rebounds by just three at 30-27.
