OLMSTED FALLS, OHIO- The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs beat the North Olmsted Eagles 49-7.
Things started off well for the Eagles.
On the first play of the game, North Olmsted ran a double reverse pass, as Sean Elbin, (who has been out since Week 2) hooked up with Lucas Servidio for 52 yards.
Three plays later, junior running back Darren Anders ran in a 31-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.
The Bulldogs came right back with a three-minute touchdown drive that was capped off by a Luke Lombardo one-yard touchdown run, tying up the game at 7.
Olmsted Falls’ defense picked up where their offense left off, as the Bulldogs recovered a fumble inside North Olmsted territory after a crushing hit on quarterback Liam Fay.
Teddy Grendzynski threw Braden Galaska a middle screen which he took to the house from 33-yards out to give Olmsted Falls the lead with 5:14 remaining in the first quarter.
North Olmsted gave the ball right back to the Bulldogs after a quick three-and-out and they capitalized once again.
Michael Howard ran in a 21-yard touchdown to bring the score to 21-7 in favor of Olmsted Falls.
He finished the night with 106 yards on just eight carries with one touchdown.
Olmsted Falls extended their lead on the next drive from another Grendzynski touchdown pass, this time to Richie Nock from 10 yards out.
The Eagles failed to convert a third down on the next drive and were forced to punt.
A beautiful punt from Owen Juhn pinned the Bulldogs at their one-yard line.
That would not stop the Bulldogs, however, as Olmsted Falls went on a 99-yard touchdown drive in just four minutes, capped off by a Lombardo 31-yard touchdown run that gave the Bulldogs a 35-7 halftime lead.
Lombardo ran for 128 yards on 21 carries and ran in two scores.
“I thought [the running backs] did a great job, they ran hard and spread it out well and we did what we do,” Olmsted Falls head coach Tom DeLuca said after the game.
In Olmsted Falls’ first drive of the second half, they picked up right where they left off as Nick Dailey finished off the drive with an 11-yard score.
The final score of the game came from a a three-yard touchdown run from Kyle Sinclair, giving the Bulldogs a 49-7 lead.
With the win, Olmsted Falls (9-1) will likely have a home game in the first round of the playoffs.
“I think it’s great for us, plus we’re on grass, most teams don’t play on grass anymore so I think it’s a good advantage.” DeLuca said. “We’re excited to be here in front of our home crowd, we don’t have to travel across the state to Toledo or anywhere like that.”
The Eagles finish off their season 4-6, and the top highlight was arguably their impressive win over Avon Lake in Week 2.
