The Cincinnati Country Day Nighthawks defeated the Ottawa-Glandorf Lady Titans 1-0 to claim the OHSAA Girls Division III State Soccer Championship on 11/10/23 at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. In a rematch of last year’s final, the Nighthawks came out on top again.
The Nighthawks were led by senior midfielder #5 Megan Zimmerman, senior center back #19 Sydney Hardesty, senior forward #20 Elizabeth Zimmerman, and senior forward #34 Piper Farris.
Cincinnati Country Day scored in the 18th minute off a set play. Megan Zimmerman tracked a corner kick by Elizabeth Zimmerman and headed the ball past Ottawa-Glandorf sophomore goalkeeper #30 Karsyn Erford for the first and only goal of the game.
Ottawa-Glandorf was more aggressive on offense in the second half than in the first. The Lady Titans took three shots in the first half and 12 in the second half. OG had three shots on target for the game, but they were unable to break through. CCD sophomore goalkeeper #1 Alyssa Easter had another clean sheet for the Nighthawks. Miraculously, Cincinnati Country Day didn’t allow one goal in their seven-game playoff run.
Ottawa-Glandorf was led by senior midfielder #19 Myka Aldrich (5 shots, 3 on target), senior forward Bri Douglass (4 shots), and senior midfielder #14 Mackenzie Recker. The Lady Titans finished the season with a record of 22-2-0.
After handshakes and award presentations, the lady Nighthawks showed off their new hardware to the student section.
