Trey Montgomery was the all-around player of the game, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in.
It was a back and forth contest all game long, as the Buckeyes scored five runs in the third inning, but Wright State scored six runs in the next two innings to take the lead.
Ohio State trailed 6-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth. All-Big Ten Buckeye Nick Sergakis drew a walk to lead off the inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved him to scoring position, Ohio State’s other All-Big Ten hitter Ronnie Dawson came through a clutch RBI Single to tie the game.
Two more walks in the inning set it up for Washington to deliver the game-winning hit.
Neither starting pitcher had a great outing, as Tanner Tulley got shelled for Ohio State and Jesse Schultens had the one bad inning for Wright State, but the Buckeye bullpen worked five shutout innings, while Caleb Sampen blew the save for the Raiders.
Ohio State plays the winner of Western Michigan vs. Louisville on 4 PM Saturday.
Ohio State is the second-seed in the region, while Louisville is ranked first in the region and the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
