4. A history of slow starts
Ohio State has yet to start the season strong under head coach Urban Meyer. When Meyer gets the boys rolling, they’re tough to slow down. But they have a history of starting slow.
In 2012, they trailed Miami of Ohio at the end of the first quarter, 3-0. Yes, they stepped on the gas and crushed the Redhawks, but they let one of the worst teams in the NCAA silence Ohio Stadium for a full quarter.
In 2013, they put their foot on the throat of Buffalo in the first quarter to the tune of a 23-0 score. However, early in the third quarter, the Bulls had trimmed that margin down to 10 points at 30-20 thanks to some sloppy play.
In 2014, the Bucks could not find any rhythm and trailed Navy 7-6 at halftime. Two big plays in the third quarter opened things up, but Buckeye Nation was silent and scared for the J.T. Barrett era on its’ opening day.
Ohio State did win all three of those games, but against a team like the Hokies, they can not afford a long lapse like they have experienced in the first game of Meyer’s previous seasons at the helm.
Now, to balance things out and send you into Monday’s game with confidence, here’s four reasons the Buckeyes will dominate their opening game.
