2. J.T. Barrett Heisman Conversation
Junior quarterback J.T. Barrett set the school record for most combined touchdowns in the opener against Bowling Green, rushing for one and completing six touchdown passes.
Ironically, he threw an interception, which was returned for a touchdown on the first drive of the game. Aside from that, he was just about perfect, finishing with 349 passing yards, completing 21-of-31 attempts.
As with just about every team after its opening game, there’s not much to take away from performances against cupcake opponents, but if Barrett continues to rack up touchdowns, yards, and manages to lead the way to dominant wins, he could be a candidate for the Heisman trophy.
At the risk of jumping the gun, I’d also like to throw Samuel’s name in the mix of Buckeyes with a chance to win the award. It’s far too early, but based on the H-back’s explosiveness and versatility, there’s plenty of reason for excitement and he’s living up to the hype so far.
