Welcome to Sunday and truly I need to air our a few things about my (our?)
Ohio State Buckeyes! Yes, THEY WON! As lackluster the effort was on all accounts for 3 quarters THEY WON easily. Yes they played a good opponent (13th in the country coming in) but in spite of an early 10-0 lead I did wonder on more than one occasion “what the heck was going on?” Shucks after 2 1/2 minutes of the 4th they were down 21 -16. My concerns?
* Play calling! Truly the set up the failures of the first 3 quarters. There are only so many times a team can “swing the ball out”, the “Long Hand Off”, to a WR or RB split out, standing still (which makes them as fast as me!)
The right side of the line was “blocking challenged.”
* Horrific tackling on the edge. The Washington 58 yard TD for PSA was a 5 yard gain!
* Second and third chances for a team at home that can be dangerous! So they missed 2 FG’s, that’s ok! Give them a TD!
The venting is over but at I could not ignore the above nor should the team! As Earle taught me “stick you head in the ground you get your butt kicked.”
The good? How about the great, in fact the greatest defensive performance in the history of THEE Ohio State University. The D line had 3 picks and and that was compliments of J.T, TUIMOAU! His final performance on the day? 2 interceptions (One a pick 6), 2 sacks, a fumble caused and recovered and a tip that was picked off!
CJ Stroud was very good again (missed a few) and the receivers and TE were brilliant. Harrison, Egbuke (after an “ouch” drop) and Stover were enjoyable to watch especially Cade running through 3 tackles for a TD and his blocking was superb.
Take the convincing win. For 3+ quarters the BUCKEYES did not look like the #2 team in the country and just a note to the team…YOU PLAY 4 QUARTERS and I am certain they know that.
