Not many teams can come away with a negative feeling after a 38-17 win, but the Ohio State Buckeyes did not feel great about Saturdays’ win at home over the Indiana Hoosiers.
Running back Mike Weber even admitted, “Even though we won by 21 points, the locker room was kind of dead because we knew we could have played a lot better.”
The biggest problem for the Buckeyes was the ineffectiveness of the passing game, as star quarterback J.T. Barrett completed only 9-of-21 passes for 93 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception.
Barrett did his part on the ground, running for 137 yards on a career-high 26 carries, a number that head coach Urban Meyer confessed was too high for his star QB.
Barrett, Weber, and Curtis Samuel combined for 290 rushing yards, while Ohio State’s defense held Indiana to less than 100 rushing yards on 40 carries.
Although it was a convincing win, it was the first time all season that Ohio State did not look nearly perfect.
Their next game will be a tough test on the road at Wisconsin and the Buckeyes will need to play better, particularly in the passing game, against a stout defense in a hostile environment.
