Ohio State fifth in preseason coaches poll

The Ohio State Buckeyes are ranked No.5 in the Amway Coaches preseason poll, released today by USA Today.

Alabama is the top dog at No.1 and Clemson No.2. The Crimson Tide beat the Tigers in last year’s epic showdown of a national title game.

Oklahoma is placed third, followed by Florida State and Ohio State. After the two home games against Bowling Green and Tulsa, Ohio State visits Oklahoma in Norman on Sept.17

As reported by the USA Today, Ohio State has been ranked in the top 10 of the coaches poll for 23 straight ballots, going back to Nov.9, 2014.

HOW THE POLL WORKS:

The Amway Coaches Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at FBS schools. The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the American Football Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.
