Why is Ohio Sprint Speedweek great? Where else can you see series regulars, local track favorites, and some “big guns” do battle? How can you go wrong with seven nights of racing over eight days? The 35th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek featuring the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions fires up Friday night at Attica Raceway Park.
Expect to see All Star regulars such as current points leader Chad Kemenah, Caleb Armstrong, Caleb Helms and Ryan Smith. Local stars that will be in contention for a feature win or two include the likes of Jac Haudenschild, D.J. Foos and Danny Mumaw along with Ohio Sprint Car Series regulars like Cole Duncan.
Rico Abreu will run the first five nights this year. Abreu, a former regular in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and 2016 Chili Bowl Midget Champion picked up a win last year during Ohio Sprint Speedweek at Wayne County Speedway. NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Caley Conley took to Twitter Wednesday morning to say he would be running. Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne said previously he hoped to run a few shows. Fellow Cup Series driver Kyle Larson won two events last year, capturing the checkered flag in the opener at Attica Raceway Park and the Atomic Speedway feature event.
Last year Mother Nature was a non-factor and the racing didn’t disappoint with seven different winners in the eight events. This year June 21st will be used as a rain date if needed. If you’ve never been, get out between Friday and June 24th and take in one of these shows. They’re worth the price of admission and as we always say, you’ll be supporting your local short track.
