The AP High School Football Polls for the State of Ohio were released on Monday.
Leading the way with number one rankings in the State of Ohio were St. Edward (Division I), Hoban (Division II) and Perry (Division V).
In analyzing the results of the rankings, Northeast Ohio was well represented in the top 10 in the Division II and Division III rankings.
There were not as many teams from Northeast Ohio ranked in Division I (1 team), Division IV (2 teams), Division V (3 teams), and Division VI (2 teams).
There were no teams from Northeast Ohio ranked in the top 10 from Division VII.
Here is an update on the teams from Northeast Ohio that were ranked in the top ten in the Ohio AP High School Football Poll.
Division I
St. Edward, which competes in OHSAA region one, was the only team ranked in the top ten from this division.
St. Edward was ranked number one in the state.
Division II
Seven out of the 10 top ranked teams in the AP poll were from Northeast Ohio in this division.
Akron Hoban was ranked number one in the state in Division II.
In addition, other Northeast Ohio teams ranked in the top ten in the Ohio AP High School Football Poll in Division II included Massillon (3), Avon (4), Riverside (5), Walsh Jesuit (6), North Ridgeville (9), and Nordonia (10).
Division III
Five out of the top ten ranked teams in Division III in the AP Ohio High School Football Poll were from Northeast Ohio.
The highest ranked Division III team from Northeast Ohio was Ursuline at number 3.
Also ranked in the top 10 from Northeast Ohio were Norton (5), Geneva (8), Kenston (9) and Gilmour (10).
Division IV
Two teams from Northeast Ohio were ranked in the top ten from Division IV. These teams included Canton South (3) and Glenville (6).
Division V
The Perry Pirates, who ended Kirtland’s 57-game regular season winning streak, are ranked number one in Division V in the Ohio AP High School Football Poll.
Two other Northeast Ohio teams are ranked in the top 10 in Division V including Norwayne (8) and Garrettsville Garfield (10)
Division IV
In Division VI, two Northeast Ohio teams are ranked in the top 10. These teams include Kirtland (4) and Rootstown (6).
