3. Terrific Tomlin
On a day when he didn’t need all that much help anyway, Josh Tomlin of the Indians had his best game of the season, going the distance and keeping the Royals in check in the 10-1 win.
Tomlin did go eight innings earlier this season against the Twins, and threw well that night also, throwing one-run ball on six hits in a tough 1-0 setback.
Sunday though the offense helped out in a big way, piling on rung and scoring in five straight innings from the second to the 8th in putting up 10 runs total on 18 hits.
The line score for Tomlin – 9 innings, one run, 6 hits, no walks, three strikeouts, and he lowered his ERA to 5.79. It was Tomlin’s 5th career complete game, his first since 2015.
With the rotation in flux with the announcement Sunday that Danny Salazar is heading to the bullpen, it would be a major boost to the team to see Tomlin get on a roll.
He’s coming off a stretch in which he had lost his last three outings, and it was his first win in nearly a month, as heading into Sunday he had not won a game since April 30th against the Mariners.
His next start is slated for Friday June 1st against the same team he faced Sunday in the Royals.
