A rivalry game dubbed the “Academic Bowl,“ Pittsburgh’s elite research institution will be coming to town to battlewith Cleveland’s elite research intuition. Do not let the players’ high SAT scores fool you; these kids can play some football. Lead by true freshman QB Drew Saxton and Sophomore WR Colt Morgan (Wooster, OH), the Case Western Reserve offense has put up some dizzying numbers of 40.0 points per game on 475.9 yards of offense (147.2 rushing and 328.7 passing yards).
Carnegie Mellon leads the all-time series at 17-15, since the inception of the “Academic Bowl” in 1986 (although there is a history that dates to 1907). The last two years had playoff implications on the line, and this game will be no different. Not only will Case Western Reserve have a chance at an at large bid to the NCAA DIII playoffs with a victory, but the Spartans can also clinch both a shared title in the PAC and outright title in the UAA (two conferences where the Spartans hold mutual membership).
Senior DE Cameron Brown (Westlake, OH), NBA Coach Mike Brown’s son, has been a force on defense and comesinto the game second in the nation with 14.0 sacks. Sophomore WR Colt Morgan is second in the nation with 17 receiving TDs. True freshman QB Drew Saxton’s 33 passing TDs is one shy of tying the program record set by thegreat QB Dan Whalen (Willoughby, OH) throwing 34 passing TDs in 2009.
