The Bears defense came out fired up and forced the Hornets to a 3 and out on the first possession of the game. The Bears first offensive play of the game was a beautiful 75 yard play from Omar Abuhamdeh who took a handoff from Daylin Riley passed to Carson Mroczka.
The Bears scored 2 plays later behind the “Power Offense” with a 2 yard TD run by Rory O’Malley. James Osborne made the extra point and the Bears were up 7 to 0. The Hornets scored on the ensuing drive and missed the extra point to make it 7 to 6. Later in the quarter., Nick Evanko forced a fumble and Simon Antonio recovered the ball to give the Bears possession. Unfortunately, the Bears turned the ball over with an interception on the very next play.
The second quarter opened with a Hornets touchdown and the Bears found themselves down 13 to 7. The rest of the quarter was a battle as both defenses played hard. Zach Takacs made a spectacular punt block and recovery. The Bears Offense drove down to the 1 yard line with under a minute to go, but could not punch it in as time expired. Highland 13 North Royalton 7 at Halftime.
The Hornets opened the third quarter with an onside kick and the Bears recovered. 2 minutes later, the Bears scored as Riley passed to Mroczka for a 26 yard touchdown. James Osborne made the extra point and the Bears were up 14 to 13. Both Defenses controlled the rest of the quarter.
Zach Takacs had a fumble recovery, Jaden Townsell had a sack and Gino Mucciarone knocked down a pass. However, the Hornets Defense did the most damage with a 45 yard interception return for a touchdown. The Hornets led 21 to 14 after 3 quarters.
The Hornets struck first in the 4th quarter with another touchdown and led 28 to 14. The Bears offense would not give up and scored right away with a Riley pass to Antonio for 55 yards. Osborne converted again and the Bears were only down 28 to 21 with 5 minutes to go. Unfortunately, the Hornets scored again with 1 minute to go and won the game 35 to 21.
The JV Football Team record is now at 2 wins and 1 loss. Come cheer the Bears on as they host Stow-Munroe Falls High School on Saturday, September 16th at 10:00 AM at Serpentini Stadium.
