The number one and number two teams in OHSAA Region Six squared off on Friday night in a highly anticipated matchup.
In this contest between Avon (1) and North Ridgeville (2), although close early, the Avon defense dominated the game as they did not allow any points on the way to a 38-7 Victory.
Avon took a 7-0 lead with a touchdown at the end of the first quarter when Avon junior quarterback Nolan Good completed a 49-yard touchdown pass to Cole Kepner.
North Ridgeville got on the scoreboard in the middle of the second quarter after they blocked a punt.
Xavier Compton recovered the football in the end zone for North Ridgeville to tie the game at 7-7.
After the blocked punt, Avon scored 31 unanswered points to soundly defeat the Rangers.
The Eagles scored two touchdowns in the final six minutes of the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead into halftime.
The Eagles scored when Nolan Good found Matt Maxey open for a long touchdown pass with less than five minutes remaining in the second quarter. This was then followed by a short touchdown run by Nolan Good.
The Eagles started the second half by recovering an onside kick.
After recovering the kick, the Eagles scored on a 5-yard touchdown by University of Cincinnati commit Jakoriun Caffey shortly thereafter.
Midway through the third quarter, Avon scored again on another touchdown run by Jakorion Caffey to take a 35-7 lead into the 4th quarter.
Avon completed the scoring with a field goal by Owen Warrick at the start of the fourth quarter to make the final score 38-7.
Avon will face Olmsted Falls next Friday, while North Ridgeville has a week six matchup with Elyria also on Friday night.
