CLEVELAND, Ohio- The Q enjoyed some more high school hockey on Wednesday, as the Brooklyn Hurricanes defeated the Nordonia Knights by a score of 5-1.
The first period was a hard-fought period by both sides, as there was a defensive battle for most of the frame. Travis Nieves was able to score at the 14:14 mark of the first period, as Matt Crossman and Aaron Wrost assisted on the goal. Brooklyn would lead 1-0 going into the second period.
Brooklyn would open the second period scoring, as Aidan Supek would score at the 4:39 mark. Crossman and Nieves would get credited with the assists on the goal Nordonia would cut the deficit in half, as Tyler Justice would score at the 5:44 mark. Drew McKinley and Brandon Mitchel were the two credited with assists. Travis Nieves would increase their lead at the 12:48 mark, as he scored off of passes from Wrost and Crossman to make it a 3-1 Hurricane lead going into the third period.
In the third period, Travis Nieves would get the hat trick after his goal at the 6:25 mark. Aaron Workman would follow that up and score a power play goal at the 12:13 mark of the third. Brooklyn would hold on to the lead and win 5-1.
Brooklyn’s Head Coach Ryan Kelber talked about Travis Nieves’ role in the victory today. “He finished today. He was a force on defense, he was a force on offense. He was a big leader. Big guys step up in big games and he did that today.”
Kelber was also happy with how the team played today and is excited with where they are heading this season. “So far, so good. We’re gonna concentrate on our division and after that we’ll see what happens in the Baron Cup. Good things so far.”
