The Cleveland Cavs head to Philadelphia on Wednesday night to take on the 76ers in their preseason debut. Cleveland will face the 76ers twice during preseason play on October 5th and 10th. The second game meeting will have the Cavs hosting Philadelphia.
Eyes from around the league will be tuned in to get their first peek. Albeit preseason, the Cavs are the talk of the league. Partly due to newly acquired guard Donovan Mitchell donning the wine and gold for the first time. Mitchell, alongside All-Star Darius Garland, are expected to be one of the most talented backcourts in the league. Which also includes NBA Champion Kevin Love, All-Star Jarrett Allen, and a future star in Evan Mobley. Though fans won’t see Mobley take the court for a few weeks as he suffered an ankle injury on Saturday.
Love told reporters: “I haven’t been on a team where there’s been, throughout the entire lineup, so much young depth and guys that are really young and talented in this league…you don’t always get something like this…I’ve never had so much fun going into work every day.”
They will go up against a Philly team who are no strangers to recent success. The 76ers have reached the playoffs in each of the last five seasons, including an Atlantic Division title in the 20-21 season. Even though all are listed as day-to-day, fans may only get a little taste of the 76ers due to six different players currently on the injury report, including All-Stars James Harden and Joel Embiid. Even with a lighter roster of experienced, successful starters, expectations for both teams are to reach the NBA Finals and expect that journey to begin on Wednesday night.
