Tonight is WWE Summerslam and the staff at NEOSI decided to test our hand at predicting the card along with some input on each match. Tonight’s panel consists of Payton Vince, Vince McKee and Eli Mooneyham.
Let’s see how we do!
Jason Jordan & The Hardy Boyz vs. The Miztourage
What are your thoughts on the Kurt Angle/Jason Jordan storyline so far?
EM: Here’s the thing. for everyone who was expecting this storyline to advance rapidly, this is a lame part of RAW right now. But for those of us who love a slow build, this is a perfect scenario. Angle and Jordan will continue to work together, with Jordan eventually winning the Intercontinental Title. Then soon down the line, expect Jordan to become sour with Angle shortly after he loses the IC Title, resulting in a heel turn for the for the former American Alpha member.
Prediction: Jason Jordan & The Hardy Boyz
VM: Jordan is a future star but the Hardy’s can’t seem to buy a win as of late. The Miztourage has some legs behind it and will grab the win. However, don’t be shocked if Jordan gets a pin over The Miz, setting up a one on one feud either.
Prediction: Official pick remains The Miztourage
PV: Not the biggest fan of the storyline. It would have made more sense for Chad Gable being the son but I think Jordan was the pick because it was a “swerve” in a McMahon’s mind. The storyline would heat up a lot more if they turn both heel or just Jordan heel. I think the storyline does help out Jason Jordan in the long run and he will see a mid card title run before all is said and done.
WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Akira Tozawa vs. Neville
Is Akira Tozawa a long-term champion or just a placeholder?
EM: I don’t see Tozawa having anywhere remotely close of a reign as Neville did with the title. Cedric Alexander is waiting in the wings and he is due for a title opportunity, as he’s been stuck with a painfully long feud with Noam Dar for the entire existence of 205 Live. Expect a few months on top for Tozawa before Alexander takes him down.
Prediction: Akira Tozawa
VM: Place holder, not sure why they even bothered. Neville is the best cruiserweight since the Hey Day of Rey Mysterio.
Prediction: Neville wins the title back tonight.
PV: Long-term champion. Possibly a longer reign than Neville, which would make Tozawa the longest Cruiserweight Champion since bringing back the title. At the moment Tozawa is someone that the fans are getting behind and the Titus Brand along with him is great.
WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships: The New Day vs. The Usos
Is this the best feud currently on the main roster?
EM: It most certainly is. With a mix of pop culture and tremendous tag team wrestling, these two teams have been given a long leash to work with and have not disappointed. The Usos feel fresh and somehow, someway the New Day remain fun to watch.
Prediction: The New Day
VM: This feud has been excellent. All 5 of these guys have been great and have done a wonderful job. I see one of them (Big E) eventually being a big time singles star. In the meantime however, I believe the New Day will hang on to the title tonight, and chase a record reign in a weak division.
Prediction: The New Day
PV: Nope. I’m actually not a fan of this feud at all. It feels like The New Day and Usos have been feuding for a year and it’s stale. Usos are one of the best heel tag teams in the WWE at this time but they need to feud with someone else besides the New Day.
Big Show vs. Big Cass
What’s more likely in this match: A Big Show win or an Enzo Amore heel turn?
EM: Enzo Amore has to turn heel if he wants to be on the main roster past Summerslam. It just doesn’t make sense for him to rejoin Cass after getting embarrassed, but it appears the WWE made a big gaffe and will reunite the two to do dastardly deeds together.
Prediction: Big Cass
VM: If Cass wins in dominant fashion, then this truly is the most predictable boring feud of all time. Enzo needs a 205 push, because the Heavyweight roster will never happen for him. Despite the greatness of his microphone skills. I see a heel turn, Enzo will throw in the towel from the cage below to submit for Big Show. Then join Cass in a post match attack.
Prediction: Big Cass
PV: Enzo Amore Heel Turn
Randy Orton vs. Rusev
Has Randy Orton finally become stale in WWE? If not, who does he feud with after Rusev?
EM: Randy Orton has become stale. Point blank. At this moment, I could care less about who he feuds with. Hopefully Rusev gets this victory tonight, as he desperately needs it.
Prediction: Randy Orton
VM: Rusev deserves better. Orton is beyond boring anymore.
Prediction: Randy Orton
PV: I can see Orton takes some time off and they bring him back around Survivor Series time. If they don’t give him a break I can see him feuding with Baron Corbin but I think that feud wouldn’t benefit either competitor.
John Cena vs. Baron Corbin
Does a Corbin beatdown of Cena salvage his embarrassing loss in his WWE Championship cash-in match on Tuesday or has The Lone Wolf been damaged pretty badly?
EM: Corbin can definitely bounce back. It will need to include a Cena beatdown, but it certainly can happen if he’s built as a monster on the loose.
Prediction: John Cena
VM: Corbin somehow, someway gets the MITB back on a stipulation.
Prediction: Cena wins, but don’t be sold on the Corbin push being done just yet.
PV: The Lone Wolf has been damaged. Unless Cena happens to lose this match which is something that comes few and far between, Corbin has a lot of building to do once again.
Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt
Is this sneakily the best match on the card?
EM: It is second only to the WWE Universal Title match. The two characters these two have are so cool to watch and it will be like watching a supernatural film tonight.
Prediction: Finn Balor
VM: Yes it is, I wrote in my blog yesterday, one of my 5 Bold predictions, this will shock people as the best match on the card. Finn Balor as the Demon is unstoppable and will win. This match will rock!
Prediction: Finn Balor
PV: Yes. Balor as the demon makes this match more interesting and highers the intensity. The match already happened once on RAW but the match makes sense after the actions of Wyatt following the match which caused Balor to bring out the demon.
WWE Raw Tag Team Championships: Sheamus & Cesaro vs. Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins
Did WWE rush The Shield reunion and where is your interest level in their reunion?
EM: They could have waited a little longer, but it was not necessarily rushed. They can’t win the titles immediately though, as that wouldn’t be believable. Rollins and Ambrose will still have to work out the kinks of their friendship. Expect them to win the titles by Royal Rumble.
Prediction: Sheamus and Cesaro
VM: Yes they did rush it. Rollins and Ambrose win by either count out or DQ. They won’t win the belts tonight.
Prediction: Ambrose And Rollins By DQ Or Count-Out
PV: WWE did not rush The Shield reunion but the interest level is half way there because they are missing the third member. Maybe the third member of The Shield joins them tonight, or maybe it is just Ambrose and Rollins together. Have to say though that the build to this match was done perfectly and waited until the last week to have the two sides team up once again.
WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship: Naomi vs. Natalya
What are the chances that Carmella cashes in successfully after this match?
Carmella cashing in would be gold here. In fact, this is the perfect moment for her to cash-in. In Brooklyn, where The Princess Of Staten Island can celebrate in front of her people.
Prediction: Carmella Wins The Title After Cashing In On A Victorious Naomi
VM: Natalya is the best pound for pound competitor on the Smackdown women’s rosters. She is just slightly in front of Charlotte. She deserves the win over the over rated terrible Naomi. But, the WWE never lets her win, so with Naomi the belt will stay.
Prediction: Naomi
PV: 0% chance. You already had a failed cash-in on Tuesday, why would you have another MITB briefcase holder cash in within a week. Carmella might cash in around Royal Rumble time or closer to the next Money in the Bank PPV.
WWE RAW Women’s Championship: Alexa Bliss vs. Sasha Banks
Is Alexa Bliss the best thing going in women’s wrestling right now?
EM: She most definitely is. Bliss has had so much momentum since joining the main roster last summer. She has been the star that she wanted to be in NXT. Everybody else is playing catch-up to every move she makes.
Prediction: Alexa Bliss
VM: Hell yes she is, and Banks is the perfect counterpart for her. This should have been the match all along. Why they tried to insert the stale Bayley in this makes no sense to me. With that being said, Banks wins the title and this feud continues for a bit as it should. Also, the simple fact that these two dislike each other behind the scene’s, makes it even better. This along with Balor vs Wyatt have the potential to steal the show.
Prediction: Sasha Banks
PV: Alexa Bliss has to be the best women’s wrestler on the main roster but not in women’s wrestling in general. I think Asuka is the best thing going in women’s wrestling because of her undefeated streak, being the longest reigning women’s champion outside of The Fabulous Moolah. Asuka is showing dominance and can be the one that dethrones Bliss as Women’s Champion on RAW.
WWE United States Championship: AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens
Is there any chance that Shane pulls a swerve and costs Styles the title, ensuring another match between the two? Who would you rather see Shane feud with after this match?
EM: Shane will not cost AJ the match, only because Kevin Owens has been the bigger thorn in his side. And honestly, Shane vs. KO is fresh. I’m all for it.
Prediction: AJ Styles
VM: I’m sick of Shane, and have been since 99. This match didn’t need him to begin with. I see this being a no contest somehow with Shane taken out.
Prediction: No Contest
PV: No chance that Shane costs Styles the title. Shane vs Owens I would rather see because we already saw Styles against Shane once and we don’t need to see it for a second time.
WWE Championship: Jinder Mahal vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Is WWE calling it quits on The Modern Day Maharaja?
EM: The end of Mahal’s reign is here. Nakamura will take his place on top of the mountain by winning his first WWE Championship and starting off with a win in his first “Big 4” match.
Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura
VM: Nakamura wins by DQ, so he won’t get the strap. Corbin then cashes in on Mahal and loses again. The belt stays with Mahal.
Prediction: Jinder Mahal
PV: Nope. WWE is doing a tour in India shortly and it would be a dumb decision to take the WWE Championship off of Mahal since that is somewhere that has been heavily targeted since Mahal won the title. Nakamura will eventually win the WWE Championship but I think it would happen at WrestleMania.
WWE Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe vs. Braun Strowman
Who needs this win the most? What is the immediate feud for the Universal Title after this match?
EM: Braun Strowman needs this win the most. Samoa Joe can still win the title later this year and he can strike out of nowhere to claim the strap. Strowman has had a monumental rise and not putting the title on him would be a huge mistake. The fans are ready for it and Strowman has shown tremendous growth in the ring and has a connection with the fans most superstars can’t seem to find. The time is now for Braun.
Prediction: Braun Strowman
VM: Lesnar loses again from a result of Reigns getting pinned. The exact same setup as WM 31. This time it is Joe going over Reigns for the title. Lesnar disappears but returns in time for Mania to take on Reigns in the Main Event.
Prediction: Samoa Joe
PV: Samoa Joe needs the win the most because he isn’t getting any younger, and the fans are getting behind him ever since the Lesnar match. Next Feud for the Universal Champion would be against John Cena since he is a free agent. Cena could have a reasoning of switching brands saying that he couldn’t get it done on Smackdown so now he is going to try on RAW and add a major championship he has never held before.
