The holidays brought us some great basketball, a few upset matchups, and some changes in the NEOSI Top 10 NBA Power Rankings. The holidays also led to some extenuating circumstances, which caused a delay in our rankings this week, but later this week, readers will get to see the reason for the delay, which included a trip to the TD Garden and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Anyways, let’s get to it!
1. Golden State Warriors (29-1)
Last Week: 1
Golden State has been at the top of our list since day one of the NBA season. And it doesn’t look like that’s gonna’ change any time soon. The Warriors answered any doubts with a big win over the Cavs on Christmas Day. Steph Curry continues to amaze, with a dazzling performance Monday night against Sacramento, in which he posted his first triple-double, with 23 points, a career-high 14 rebounds, and 10 assists.
It was Curry’s sixth triple-double of his career. He went off in the final three minutes of the second quarter, scoring a quick 17 points. Maybe he just did it to show off to his kid brother, Seth, who plays for the Kings.
2. San Antonio Spurs (27-6)
Last Week: 2
The Spurs continue to quietly dominate. They have won nine of their last ten, but did fall on Christmas Day on the road to the Houston Rockets.
The Spurs hold the best home record in the NBA, at 18-0. Cavs’ fans can expect a great showdown in the Lone Star State, January 14th, when the Cavs get their next chance to show they can match up with the other elite team in the NBA.
