*The Cleveland Indians defeated the San Francisco Giants by a final score of 5-4 on Monday. The Tribe were led by Yonder Alonso, who accounted for four runs on the day. Alonso hit a three-run blast in the top of the first inning and then hit a solo shot in the fourth inning. Tyler Naquin’s RBI single was the only other run for Cleveland in the winning effort.
Josh Tomlin earned the victory on the mound, pitching 5 2/3 innings while only giving up three runs.
*The Tribe parted ways with catcher Ryan Hanigan and outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. on Monday as they continue to cut down their roster. Cleveland also optioned Yandy Diaz and Eric Haase down to Triple-A in the roster moves.
*First basemen Mike Napoli might be heading to the minors after his spring training stint with Cleveland. Napoli was picked up after not having a market through most of free agency. Napoli had a dropoff year with the Texas Rangers in 2017 and has to settle for the deal he got. Now it appears like he might be opening the year in Triple-A Columbus.
