CLEVELAND, Ohio – It was a another wild weekend in Cleveland sports with plenty of up’s and downs but no shortage of action.
The Cavaliers advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals as they finished off the sweep of the Atlanta Hawks. They took both game three and four in Atlanta on the road, coming from behind in both games. They hit 21 Three pointers Friday night to outscore the Haws by 19 in the fourth quarter. They will now await the winner of the Toronto Raptors versus Miami Heat series to see who they play in the conference finals. Miami currently trails Toronto 2-1.
The Indians completed a 5-1 home stand as they took 2 of 3 from the defending World Series Champion Kansas City Royals. Josh Tomlin picked up his 5th win of the season yesterday and Danny Salazar picked up his third win on Friday night in a dominant 7-1 win. Friday nights game also saw Jose Ramirez go 3 for 3 with 5 RBI’s. A career high for him. They kick off a 3 game set with the Astros tonight in Houston.
The Cavs aren’t the only playoff team in town making waves as the Lake Erie Monsters went up 3 – 0 over Grand Rapids in their best of Seven Series this weekend. Goaltender Joonas Korpisalo had an incredible 41 saves in yesterday’s victory!
In a wild weekend that saw two watch parties hosted at the Q, and a hockey playoff game, it was not without football either. The Gladiators topped the Jacksonville Sharks in a thrilling nail biter Saturday night 41-40. They won on the strength of Arvill Nelson tossing three touchdown passes and 221 yards. Nelson also had 3 rushing touchdowns to account for all six of their scores. Wide receiver Collin Taylor had 6 catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
