GATES MILLS, Ohio- It was a nice Wednesday night in Gates Mills, Ohio, as the Gilmour Lancers took on the Saint Joseph Academy Jaguars. The Lancers came into this game 1-0 on the season, as they were touted as one of the best teams in Division III this year.
Before the game, Junior Naz Hillmon was honored for scoring 1,000 points as a Gilmour Lancer. With one more year to go, Hillmon has a chance to go down as one of the best Gilmour basketball players of all-time.
When it came to the game, Gilmour was all over Saint Joseph Academy. The Lancers started off the game by finding Hillmon multiple times down low for the inside baskets. Hillmon showed early why she has 1,000 points in her career so far, as she bullied the Jaguars in the paint for rebounds and easy points. Hillmon’s early dominance opened up the floor for the phenomenal guard play led by Senior Emily Kelley. Kelley and Junior Sarah Bohn unleashed a three-point barrage in the first half, leading the Lancers to a 32-21 first half lead.
In the second half, the Lancers were able to continue their dominance, as Hillmon and Kelley led their team to victory. Hillmon had 21 points and Kelley added 20 points in a game where they never trailed. Gianna DiMassa and Molly Dever were two bright spots in the game for the Jaguars, as they made plays to try and keep Saint Joseph in the game. Gilmour was able to secure the 70-55 victory though, as they were able to play a complete game of basketball.
