My USMNT Takes after Mexico Draw

USMNT World Cup

The other night, the US Men’s National Team drew with Mexico in a friendly staged in Arizona. Mexico scored first on shoddy defending and passing by the US team. But a devastating counter attack in the 81’ saw Jesús Ferreira, the current FC Dallas forward, even the score with a toe poke for the goal.

Dubbed the AllState Continental Clásico, the two nations have always had spirited matches even when both sides are not at their full strength. But with the draw, the US has now stretched their unbeaten streak to five games against their southern neighbors.

Anyone notice the absurdity of the AllState Clasico being played at State Farm Stadium? I wonder if Progressive sponsored the courtesy cars!

My takes on the match

  1. Can we end the Aaron Long experiment, please? The LAFC defender was poor again and with this being a friendly, why not try other options next time US gathers footballers? Justin Che. Caleb Wiley. Josh Wynder. Jonathan Gomez, though he needs to decide…Mexico or US? Glad to see Wiley get in…for 2 minutes.
  2. US MNT…no GM/Director player development, head coach? So let’s see…77 days to the Gold Cup and 1149 days to the World Cup and US Soccer STILL hasn’t named a GM/Director and coach. Yeah…that’s smart! Sheesh!
  3. Vazquez did all he could. He did well forcing the Mexican CB’s to watch his every move, but he never got a ball in. He needs work on-ball but other teams know he will be a handful! I’m just wondering…do the current coaches for the US know this?
  4. Like what I see in Sands and both Morris’. Aidan right now has a huge upside and is playing well for the Crew!
  5. We can counter well, but we need to work on holding the ball. And a full-time coach/staff would help there.

Mexico Goal!

US Goal!

Next up: Gold Cup!

The Gold Cup is @Concacaf’s premier event for national teams. The preliminary matches start and go from June 16 to 20. The group stage runs from June 24 to July 4. The final will be played July 16 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

FC Cincinnati will host the quarterfinals on Sunday, July 9th. With the possibility of the USMNT playing there, it would be a huge event for the nation right in Ohio!

May all your PK’s hit the back of the net!
