Munch Musings Guardians Edition from E. 53rd and Hamm Avenue

The Cleveland Guardians host the Baltimore Orioles in a huge 4 game series starting Thursday evening at Progressive Field. First pitch 6:40p as Ben Lively tosses against newly acquired lefty Trevor Rogers, who just caught up with the Birds in Cleveland. First pitch 6:40p.

Did I note that the Guardians are 65-42, that’s 23 games over .500 and are the best team in baseball followed by the Phils and Orioles.
Yup the Guards handled their business in Philly taking 2 of 3 vs the boys reppin’ the city of brotherly love and we know they play even better baseball at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario.

After the trade deadline expired, I saw the usual nonsense on social  (yes, I busy getting rid of quite a few people as my life is too pleasant to be troubled by malcontents) noting about the cheap owners of the team. Did you know their team is 23 games over .500 and has the best record in baseball? Of course I would have liked to grab Jack Flaherty or even Erik Fedde but Jack is an LA guy and had enough cache that he was able to request a trade home and Fedde went for the type of prospects the Guards were not willing to part with at the deadline. YES, their team needs some starters, so they grabbed Alex Cobb. Alex has not pitched yet this year and along with Matthew Boyd the Cleveland Guardians are hoping one if not both come through. OF Lane Thomas was also obtained and you will see him in the lineup just about daily.

Back to the owners of the team and yes Paul Dolan is a friend however I have sparred verbally with friends before if I feel they need a CTJ!  Would I have liked a blockbuster move at the deadline? HECK YES and in spite of the mistakes last year dishing out big $$ for Bell and Zunino, I truly was hoping they were going to make a play for pro hitter JD Martinez in the off season. Still the bottom line is the team made two moves and have the best record in baseball.

I must leave you with one thought as I need your help answering a question. Arguably after Kenny Lofton, the best fielding CF the team penciled in the lineup was Myles Straw. Yes, it appeared that Myles failed in quite a few high leverage situations at the plate last year, but his fielding saved games and his batting average was .238 BUT YOU did not want him. There was loud noise to keep him away. Please tell me the diff between him and Rocchio (Diff positions but similar circumstances) who so many rant and rave about in a positive way with his fielding was who is hitting .204 AND HAS COST THE TEAM some games with awful fielding? To boot Tyler Freeman is hitting .224 and has played a decent CF but he’s no Straw with the glove…so why all the hate on Myles? LOL I’ll hang up and listen!
